About WebDAV
WebDAV, which is short for Web-based Distributed Authoring and
Versioning, is a set of extensions to the Interne's HTTP
protocol. This is the same protocol you use when you
visit most web sites.
- WebDAV is platform independent. This
means that Macintosh, *nix, and Windows users can
collaborate on Web content without all of the usual
conversion problems.
- WebDAV is software agnostic. As long as
your Web authoring tools are WebDAV compliant, it
makes little difference which particular product
you're using.
- WebDAV is seamless. Because WebDAV is
simply a set of extensions to HTTP, it's easy for
companies to build support into any product that
already "understands" the Web. And since WebDAV rides
on top of HTTP, firewalls do not typically get in the
way of accessing your Web content remotely.
- WebDAV makes use of the standard authorization
and authentication methods. In the same manner as
one restricts access to a portion (whether a file,
folder, or entire site) of a Web site to a
particular set of users or machines, so too can one
finely tune WebDAV access to resources.
WebDAV Storage Folder hosting
solutions allow easy access to files through Microsoft Windows Explorer,
Internet Explorer and a full range of WebDAV compatible programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office
programs.
Connecting to your WebDAV Web
Folder is easy!
If you're using Windows XP, then simply map a network drive, like
this:

Where 'yourURL' is assigned to you by EPI.
If you are using an older version of Windows then there are a variety
of ways for you to connect to your online Web Folder (EPI will send you
a document when you sign up that explains how).
There are also some great third party products such as
WebDrive that work well with many older versions of Windows,
including Windows 95.
